Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world. It was once so rich that Concorde used to fly from Caracas to Paris. But in the last three years its economy has collapsed. Hunger has gripped the nation for years. Now, it’s killing people and animals that are dying of starvation. The Venezuelan government knows, but won’t admit it!!! Four in five Venezuelans live in poverty. People queue for hours to buy food. Much of the time they go without. People are also dying from a lack of medicines. Inflation is at 82,766% and there are warnings it could exceed one million per cent by the end of this year. Venezuelans are trying to get out. The UN says 2.3 million people have fled the country - 7% of the population.

Events: "THE MAKING OF A SUPERSTAR"...A DOCUMENTARY

MESSAGE FROM HOST

We are making this documentary to track the progress of actors attending "Book the Job with Hypnosis"...A Workshop for Actors. This class is making a difference. Actors are experiencing immediate shifts in consciousness that reflect in their outward behavior at auditions. They feel more confident, focused and powerful...and you can't fake that. Come join us - participate and be interviewed. Someone, or everyone there is going to break out any minute now! Let us document your rise to SUPERSTARDOM!!!

Are you still nervous at auditions? Are you nailing the audition but not booking the job? Are you booking, but not consistently?

Wherever you are, you know where you want to be: a full-time working actor with a six-figure income and beyond. But conscious desire is not always enough to get what you want.

Hypnosis can help you reach that comfort zone to gain self-confidence and expand your ability to allow a greater level of success in your career. Through guided visualization, you'll experience the entire process from your audition notification to booking the job.

When we visualize success in the state of hypnosis, the Subconscious Mind will accept this experience as fact and we begin to feel more excited, successful and powerful!

Success starts in the mind, so take control of your thoughts and create the career you want! Join Certified Hypnotherapist RoseAnn Kelley for a group hypnotherapy workshop designed just for actors like you!

Cost: $35.00

EVENTS: Getting policymakers' attention for your documentary

Women in Film and Video (WIFV.org) is a D.C. professional group for both men and women who work in media industries

Wednesday, March 2, 2011 - 7 PM

PLACE: Capitol Hill Suites, 200 C Street SE, Washington, DC 20003
Two blocks from Capitol South Metro, just next to the Library of Congress

COST: $10 for WIFV members, $20 for non-members
RSVP: membership@wifv.org

Many documentary filmmakers are driven by a desire not only to tell compelling stories but also to have an impact on public policies and laws. When such filmmakers see an injustice or abuse, they may make great sacrifices to bring the truth to light in hopes that change will come. The journey often brings them to Washington, D.C., where so many policies are made and amended. This can lead to an awkward interaction with policymakers, who at times are part of the problem, yet whose leadership is needed to be part of the solution. This panel will discuss the most effective ways to gain positive attention for your documentary project.

FILM INFO:
Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of "catadores" -- self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muniz's initial objective was to "paint" the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives. Director Lucy Walker (Devil's Playground, BlindsighT and COUNTDOWN TO ZERO) and co-directors João Jardim and Karen Harley have great access to the entire process and, in the end, offer stirring evidence of the transformative power of art and the alchemy of the human spirit.

Don't miss this film.
